THE STORY OF HOW DAGO RED GOT HER NAME
Chino, California. 1981. Frank Taylor, Bill Destefani, Pete Law, Bruce Boland, Mike Nixon among other talented individuals decided to rebuild a wrecked P-51 Mustang (Serial #44-74996) that had crashed. They wanted to make it a competitive racer for the upcoming Reno Air Races. Many months of work went into rebuilding the aircraft in an attempt at creating a new cutting edge (at the time) racer.
On one particularly long evening, a crew member was sent out to get dinner for the rest of the crew. As the crew member was about to leave, someone yelled out, "and don't forget to bring back some good dago red wine". Frank Taylor overheard this and declared the new name for the rebuilt racer be Dago Red, a common slang term given to Italian table wine.
