NHK Japan
project: live performance animation for Mars landing
| market: Television
target -------------| platform: broadcast television
| audience: worldwide television viewers
notes: On July 4th, 1997 Nasa / JPL successfully landed a spacecraft on the cold surface of Mars . Simultaneously, back at home, ContentX ran real-time simulations of the events for the TV viewing pleasure of millions, enabling staff scientists to better explain the craft and its operation. Arriving at the NHK television studios in Tokyo several days before the event, ContentX team members set up a pair of Silicon Graphics O2 workstations with pre-constructed simulations of the Sojourner rover, the lander (the Carl Sagan Memorial Station) and the red planet, Mars. A follow-up event was staged in Pasadena at JPL's facility.
